A few weeks back I received a letter from my son’s school asking for a special project for the children of Haiti. The project was called “Backpacks of Love for Haiti” and consisted of stuffing a kid’s backpack with essential hygiene and foods items, as well as toys to be sent to the children of Haiti. Giancarlo loved the idea and started looking enthusiastically for the things we already had in the house, getting everyone at home involved. It was fascinating to see him so preoccupied about finding the items and yearning that it got to another kid like him. Thanks to this assignment we promote in our children the sense of helping and especially of compassion towards others. So we sent a backpack that Giancarlo had, stuffed with some unopened toys he had received for Christmas, along with other things we knew a kid in Haiti could use.
